The Shuswap River starts its journey through the rapids near Mabel Lake, which are host to the annual Kayak Rodeo. From there it winds through Enderby and finally meanders slowly through the villages of Grindrod and Mara before reaching Mara Lake. Wildlife is plentiful along the river. Beavers, kingfishers and eagles are a common sight. If you are lucky you may even spot a family of local dear or the occasional black bear resting in the trees along its banks.

The park also offers a large grassy play area, an adventure playground, a large boat launch. and a self-guiding nature trail. Boaters may wish to visit Copper Island, located two kilometres offshore. A 2.8 km hiking trail provides beautiful views of the area. Please note that camping and campfires are prohibited on the island. Supplies, groceries, and many recreational opportunities including bumper boats, mini-golf driving range, go-carts, para-sailing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, boat and jet-ski rentals are offered by near-by businesses.
